Eric Benét

Eric Benet is the kind of artist I quietly admire. Four Grammy nominations without ever feeling like he was chasing the spotlight tells me everything about his priorities: the voice and the songwriting come first, the noise comes never. There is a grown-up melancholy threaded through his R&B that rewards late-night listening rather than playlist skimming. Coming out of Mobile, Alabama, he carries a warmth that feels earned rather than performed. I tend to trust singers who let craft do the talking, and Benet has been doing exactly that for decades. He is a quiet anchor in a genre too often distracted by spectacle.
