My Take
Eric Montross is the kind of athlete I respect deeply: a 213 cm center who anchored the paint for eight NBA seasons across six franchises after starring at North Carolina. He was never the flashy scorer, but big men who do the unglamorous defensive labor are the backbone of any team. His move into broadcasting showed a generous instinct to keep giving back to the game. His passing in late 2023 felt like losing one of basketball's steady, dependable hearts. I value grinders like him over highlight chasers.
