Gangsta Boo is one of the most important and underrated figures in Southern hip-hop, full stop. Joining Three 6 Mafia at fourteen and holding her own in that aggressive Memphis crew took ferocity and skill in equal measure, and her voice carried a menace and charisma that few could match. Walking away over financial and promotional disputes reads to me as an artist refusing to be shortchanged. Her death on New Year's Day 2023 was a genuine loss. I see her as a foundational queen of the South whose influence runs through far more music than people credit, and I want her remembered.
