My Take

Gary Moore is, for me, one of those guitarists you feel before you analyze. Out of Belfast and influenced by Peter Green and Eric Clapton, he refused to be boxed in, moving fluidly through blues, hard rock, heavy metal, and jazz fusion across his career. What I love is the emotional weight of his playing; a single sustained note can grab you by the collar. There's a melancholy in his tone I like to imagine carries something of Northern Ireland in it. Losing him in 2011 was far too early, but the recordings still ache beautifully. I keep coming back.
