George "Johnny 3 Tears" Ragan

What draws me to Johnny 3 Tears is the discipline behind the spectacle. Fronting Hollywood Undead, he raps, sings, and plays bass while hiding behind a mask, which I read less as gimmick and more as a choice to let voice and lyric carry the weight. Born in Los Angeles in 1981, he grew up in a rough neighborhood marked by street gun violence and drugs, and that background seems to feed the intensity. Rap rock can easily tip into noise, but his band has staying power, and I credit that to a frontman who clearly cares about craft more than personality. A quietly serious artist.
