My Take

Gerardo Arteaga interests me because he's a current Mexico international holding down one of football's most thankless jobs. Born in 1998 in Zapopan, Jalisco, he plays left-back for Liga MX powerhouse Monterrey, a role that demands sprinting up the flank, recovering, and doing it again for ninety minutes. It's unglamorous work, yet a team's whole balance leans on whether that side is locked down. The legs and lungs it took to reach the national team deserve real credit.
