My Take

Johan Vázquez is one of those defenders I keep an eye on because a center-back who captains a Serie A side like Genoa has clearly earned the dressing room's trust, not just minutes. Being Mexican and anchoring an Italian back line while also turning out for El Tri tells me he's adapted to two very different football cultures, which is no small thing for a player born in Navojoa. I find his profile understated compared to flashier attackers, but that durability and leadership at the back is exactly what wins points over a long season. I'd love to see him keep that captaincy and carry it into more big Mexico tournaments.
