Gotabaya Rajapaksa

Gotabaya Rajapaksa is a figure I find impossible to view simply. He climbed from army officer to defense chief to the presidency in 2019, only to be forced out amid a devastating economic crisis in 2022. That arc from decorated soldier to a leader fleeing public fury is a sobering meditation on the weight of power. History will keep weighing his record for years, but his rise and fall remind me how unforgiving it is to carry a nation's fate. He is someone I prefer to assess soberly, holding both the achievements and the failures in view.
