Greg Ostertag

Greg Ostertag is my kind of basketball story. At seven foot two, the Kansas product spent the bulk of his NBA years anchoring the Utah Jazz paint during their best era, doing the unglamorous work of rebounding and shot-blocking that rarely shows up on highlight reels but wins games. What genuinely delights me is the second act: in 2026 he won election as mayor of Mount Vernon, Texas. There is something deeply likable about a big man who spent his playing days protecting the rim and now serves as mayor of Mount Vernon. I am rooting for him.
