Guthrie Govan

To me, Guthrie Govan is one of the most complete guitarists alive. His work with the Aristocrats and Asia is dazzling, but what wins me over is the wit underneath the virtuosity, a player who treats fearsome technique as a playground rather than a trophy. The cheeky title Erotic Cakes hides genuinely brilliant playing, and earning the trust of Steven Wilson and Hans Zimmer says everything about his musicality. I especially respect that he gives so much back as a teacher. That generosity, paired with such effortless command, is exactly why I find him so compelling.
