My Take

Hailey Bieber could have coasted forever on famous surnames, the one she was born with and the one she married into, which is exactly why Rhode impresses me. Celebrity beauty lines are usually licensing exercises; hers was built with a clear creative point of view, and the billion-dollar acquisition by e.l.f. is the kind of exit serious founders spend decades chasing. The modeling resume, from Guess to Ralph Lauren to Tommy Hilfiger, now reads like the prologue rather than the story. To me she is proof that socialite and operator are not mutually exclusive categories, and the operator side is winning.
