My Take

Haley Bennett is the kind of actress I recommend to people who think they have not seen her, and they almost always have. From her debut in Music and Lyrics to The Magnificent Seven and Cyrano, she keeps choosing projects over publicity. Swallow is the proof of what she can do: a nearly silent performance, built from tension in the jaw and the eyes, that stays with you for days. She can sing, she can carry a period piece, and she clearly prefers difficult characters to easy fame. I suspect we are only a few roles away from her being ranked among her generation's best.
