My Take
What draws me to Ian Hunter is the way he turned grit into glamour. As the voice of Mott the Hoople he rode the glam-rock wave, but he never lost the working-class warmth underneath the eyeliner and shades. I admire performers who keep going on their own terms, and Hunter did exactly that, writing and singing long before the band and long after it dissolved.
