Iran Barkley

Iran Barkley is the kind of fighter I cannot help but root for. A three-division world champion out of the Bronx who beat the odds as often as he beat his opponents, he embodied the spirit of the perennial challenger who simply refused to quit. The 1992 Comeback of the Year award says everything about his resilience. Boxing remembers its smooth technicians, but I have a soft spot for warriors like Barkley who won through sheer will and a granite chin. His story is grittier and, to me, far more human than the polished legends he shared the ring with.
