My Take
What impresses me most about Janet Jackson is that she built an empire entirely on her own terms, despite growing up in the shadow of arguably the most famous musical family in history. Rhythm Nation was not just a hit record; it was a statement that pop music could carry social weight without losing its groove. Her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019 felt overdue to me. I admire how she kept reinventing herself across decades, as singer, actress, dancer, and provocateur, while keeping a meticulous, almost architectural approach to her stage shows. To me, she is the blueprint for the modern pop auteur.
