My Take
Jazmine Sullivan is, for me, proof that technique without lived experience is hollow. Two Grammys and a place on Time's 100 Most Influential list barely capture what makes her special: that thick, unguarded voice that seems to grab you by the collar. Coming up from Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia and debuting as a teenager, she also did the rare and brave thing of stepping away before returning even stronger. I respect artists who treat singing as confession rather than performance, and Sullivan's voice carries a whole life inside it. She is the real article.
