Jenny Berggren

For me, Jenny Berggren will always be tied to that crystalline voice at the heart of Ace of Base, the Swedish pop juggernaut of the early 1990s. Born in 1972 in Västra Götaland, she sat at the center of a sound that conquered the world. What I respect, though, is what came after the peak: rather than coasting on nostalgia, she kept writing and composing from 1995 onward, going solo and releasing her own album, My Story, in 2010, while also working as a poet and writer. Refusing to be just a hitmaker, she kept speaking in her own words, and that quiet persistence earns my applause.
