Yukinori Oguni

Honestly, just hearing "boxer" makes me sit up a little straighter. There's something about choosing to climb into a ring where one clean shot can change everything, armed with nothing but your own two fists, that I find quietly heroic. Yukinori Oguni came up out of Hyogo, and as someone with a soft spot for that part of Japan, I'll admit I'm rooting for him before I even check a single stat. He took the IBF super bantamweight title on New Year's Eve 2016, and I love the let-the-gloves-talk approach over loud self-promotion. A guy who chased the wider world with his hands alone has my respect, full stop.
