My Take
Jerry Orbach was, for my money, one of the last true leading men the Broadway musical produced. He rose off the New York stage, sang and danced and acted with equal command, and took home the 1969 Tony for Best Actor in a Musical. Many will know him as the warm father in Dirty Dancing or the world-weary Detective Briscoe, and that low, kindly voice still lingers with me. His 2004 death felt like a real loss. The stage-forged depth he carried into every role is exactly the lineage I think we should keep treasuring.
