Jesse Plemons

Jesse Plemons is one of those actors who sneaks up on you — you first notice him as Todd in Breaking Bad, this soft-spoken, placidly terrifying kid who manages to be scarier than half the actual villains on the show, and from that moment you start spotting him everywhere. Dallas-born, and a graduate of Texas Tech's distance-learning school program rather than any university, he carries this deceptively plain-guy energy that somehow unlocks every kind of character: a corrupt lawman, a grieving husband, a hapless sad sack. His 2024 Cannes Best Actor win for Kinds of Kindness felt like the film world finally catching up to what TV audiences knew for years. He's not flashy, he doesn't showboat, but put him in front of a camera and he will quietly steal the scene every single time.
