Jesse Rutherford

Jesse Rutherford interests me as a performer who has been on stage since childhood. Born in Thousand Oaks, he was acting as a child in the 2002 films Life or Something Like It and Bundy and in an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, long before he fronted the Neighbourhood. The fact that he has moved between singing, songwriting and acting tells me he thinks of himself less as a vocalist and more as a character builder — every song a small role, every role a small song. His 2011 mixtape Truth Hurts, Truth Heals, which blended hip-hop and R&B, came out the same year the band took shape. I keep watching for what he does next.
