My Take

Jim Starlin is, plainly, one of comics' true architects. The man who gave us Thanos, Drax, and Gamora, and who scripted the cosmic grandeur of The Infinity Gauntlet, essentially drew the blueprint that a generation of blockbuster cinema later traced over. His Inkpot Award and Eisner Hall of Fame honors feel almost understated next to that influence. What I admire most is the imaginative scale: a writer from Detroit conjuring whole space operas that lodged themselves in millions of young minds. The word creator gets thrown around loosely, but with Starlin it is simply accurate, and I hold him in real reverence.
