John Getz

John Getz is a character actor's character actor, and his filmography reads like a directors' trust list. Appearing in Blood Simple, The Fly, and The Social Network means the Coens, David Cronenberg, and David Fincher all wanted him, which is about the highest quiet compliment in the business. Trained at the University of Iowa, he brings a grounded, believable texture that lets a scene breathe without demanding the spotlight. I admire performers like this who shape a movie's atmosphere from the edges. That he remained a working actor for so long speaks to a craft that never went stale and a presence directors keep returning to.
