My Take
John Stagliano, better known as Buttman, intrigues me less as a performer than as an entrepreneur. A former UCLA economics student who built and ran Evil Angel, he approached adult filmmaking with a craftsman's attention to shooting and editing rather than mere output. That seriousness about his work, capped by his 1997 AVN Hall of Fame induction, earns my respect on a purely professional level. Whatever one thinks of the genre, founding and steering a lasting studio demands real business instinct and creative discipline. I find his commitment to making something rather than just producing volume genuinely noteworthy.
