My Take

Turteltaub is the kind of dependable studio director whose name you might not know but whose movies you've definitely watched on a lazy Sunday. National Treasure is his crown jewel for me, a goofy, earnest treasure-hunt adventure that has aged into a cult favorite precisely because it commits so hard to its own ridiculousness. Cool Runnings and While You Were Sleeping prove he has range across feel-good comedy and warm romance. He's not an auteur chasing prestige, and that's fine; he makes broad, crowd-pleasing entertainment with real craft. The Meg showed he can do dumb-fun spectacle too. A reliable hitmaker.
