My Take

Jonathan King is a genuinely uncomfortable figure to write about, and I think honesty demands I say so. His early gift was real: a chart hit written and sung while still a student, then a sprawling career as songwriter, producer, director and presenter. The instinct for a hook was undeniable. But his 2001 conviction for sexually abusing teenage boys ended that career and rightly overshadows it. I do not believe talent excuses harm, nor do I think we should pretend the music never existed. My take is to hold both truths at once: a sharp creative mind, and a serious, unforgivable wrong.
