José Altafini

José Altafini, the Brazilian-born forward affectionately called "Mazzola," is a figure I find genuinely romantic in football terms. Starting at Palmeiras and then flourishing at AC Milan, he won admiration across two countries and two footballing cultures. What I appreciate most is his second act: rather than fading away, he became a long-serving commentator, translating the game he once played into words for new audiences. That arc, from dazzling on the pitch to illuminating it from the booth, strikes me as a rare and graceful career. He embodies a bridge between Brazilian flair and Italian tradition.
