Joseph Kosinski

Joseph Kosinski is one of those directors who quietly became essential to the big-screen spectacle experience. He came out of Columbia's architecture program — not film school — and you can feel that in every frame: his movies are obsessively designed, built around clean geometry, immersive sound, and a tactile love of machines in motion. Tron: Legacy was a bold debut that prioritized vibe and atmosphere over plot, and it worked. But Top Gun: Maverick is where he really cemented his legacy — that film is practically a masterclass in practical action filmmaking, and it absolutely deserved the box-office love it got. Only the Brave is the one I wish more people had seen; it's a genuinely moving true story that showed he could handle human drama just as well as spectacle. A seriously underrated craftsman.
