Junya Itō

I have real affection for Junya Itō's path. Coming up through Kanagawa University rather than a glamorous youth academy gives his career a grounded, self-made feel that I admire. At 176 cm he is not physically imposing, yet he carves up defenses with blistering pace and clever movement on the wing, which tells me his real weapon is intelligence. Being trusted at Genk in Belgium and for the Japan national team confirms it. I will always root for this kind of grafter who earned the elite stage the hard way rather than being handed it.
