K. K. Downing

K. K. Downing is one of those guitarists who genuinely helped invent a genre — when you think of the twin-guitar attack that defines heavy metal, you're hearing the blueprint he and Glenn Tipton laid down across decades with Judas Priest. The leather, the studs, the flying V arching through the spotlight — K.K. made that image as iconic as the riffs themselves. His retirement from the band in 2011 felt like losing a founding pillar, but watching him come back with KK's Priest and reconnect with that ferocious energy reminded me why he was always the one you watched on stage. There's a raw, swaggering aggression in his playing that studio polish never quite tamed, and that's exactly what made it great.
