Kaitlyn Dever is one of those actresses who quietly outclasses everyone around her and then lets the awards buzz catch up later. She grew up on screen in Last Man Standing and Justified, so by the time she landed the gut-punch role in Unbelievable — playing a rape survivor gaslit into disbelief by the very people supposed to help her — she had the chops to make it feel absolutely real. Then Dopesick hit and confirmed she belongs in any conversation about the best dramatic performers of her generation. I love that she also did Booksmart and showed genuine comic timing; she's not precious about genre.
