Kangana Ranaut

What draws me to Kangana Ranaut is sheer backbone. Arriving from the hills of Mandi with no industry connections, she clawed her way into Bollywood and walked off with four National Film Awards, which speaks to talent and tenacity in equal measure. She is unmatched at playing willful, unconventional women, and she has expanded into directing and now a seat in Parliament. I find her refusal to soften her opinions genuinely bracing, even when it courts controversy. She offers no polished fiction, only a lived-in strength. Performers with that much conviction are exactly the ones I want to root for.
