My Take

Kathy Yuen, known as Tong Yee, embodies a transition I always find quietly brave. She entered the spotlight through a 2006 Hong Kong cooking variety show, then deliberately narrowed her focus to acting under Emperor Entertainment. Choosing the discipline of a craft over the easy visibility of variety television says something about ambition. I am drawn, too, to how she announced her pregnancy and wedding in 2021 on her own terms, refusing to let career and personal life be framed as rivals.
