Katy Gallagher

What strikes me about Katy Gallagher is the path she took before politics. A social worker and trade unionist first, she clearly learned governance from the ground up rather than from a textbook. That background, I suspect, is why she handles heavy portfolios like finance and the public service with such steady, unflashy competence. I find that career arc more reassuring than charisma ever could be. Coming out of Weston Creek and the Australian National University, she reads to me as a builder, not a performer, and politics quietly needs far more of exactly that kind of person.
