My Take

Keith Raniere is a cautionary figure I think we are obliged to remember accurately. A Brooklyn-born man with a technical education who built NXIVM under the friendly banner of self-improvement, only to be convicted of racketeering, trafficking, and fraud. What unsettles me is not stupidity but its opposite: real intelligence aimed squarely at control. He is proof that charisma plus a hunger to dominate can hollow out vulnerable people from the inside. I have no admiration here, only a clear-eyed interest in how such manipulation operates, because understanding it is the only defense ordinary people have against the next one.
