My Take
Kem's voice is, to my ear, the sound of grown-up R&B done right. Born in Nashville, he sings soul with a warmth and smoothness that feels lived-in rather than performed. What moves me is that he financed his self-released debut on a credit card while singing in a wedding band and waiting tables, and that effort lends real weight to every phrase. I trust singers who refuse spectacle and instead let you settle into the music, and Kem is exactly that artist. His records are made for late nights spent alone with your thoughts. In a scene chasing trends, he reads to me as the genuine article, an expressive craftsman built to outlast fashion.
