Kentaro Sonoura

Honestly, when I first looked up Kentaro Sonoura I wasn't expecting much — another career politician, another Tokyo University pedigree — but the more I read, the more the guy grows on me. Standing six feet tall among a parliament full of suits, he's clearly not someone who disappears into the background. The fact that he went from the Sanuki plains — where the biggest daily argument is probably over udon broth — all the way to foreign policy work at the national level says something real about the kind of ambition and grind it takes. I'm not here to grade his politics, but as a person shaped by one of Japan's most quietly proud regions, I find myself rooting for the guy to keep that hometown common sense somewhere in his briefcase.
