My Take

Kevin Cameron interests me precisely because his story is understated. A pitcher out of Joliet, Illinois who reached the mound for the San Diego Padres and Oakland Athletics has already done what countless kids only dream of. People fixate on stats, but I keep coming back to the sheer improbability of standing on a Major League mound at all, alone in those sixty feet six inches with everything on the line. The record is quiet, yet the achievement is not. To me, simply touching the edge of that dream is worth honoring, far more than any box score could ever capture.
