My Take

Kiefer Sherwood is the kind of player I instinctively root for. Out of Columbus, Ohio, he took the college route through Miami University before reaching the NHL as a forward, now with the San Jose Sharks. I value that path: undrafted-style grinders who climb through college tend to bring a relentless, physical edge that flashier prospects sometimes lack. Born in 1995, he is squarely in his prime, and forwards who hit, forecheck and outwork opponents are simply fun to watch. I like that he carries hometown pride onto the ice and earns his place every shift rather than coasting on hype.
