My Take
Kitty Kelley is the sort of writer I find irresistible: a fearless biographer who built her name dismantling the polished images of the powerful. Jacqueline Kennedy, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Reagan, the British royals, the Bush dynasty, Oprah, she went after them all without permission and without flinching. What impresses me is the sheer nerve to take on subjects most journalists would avoid for fear of lawsuits and ruin. Unauthorized biography is a divisive craft, but there is undeniable bite and audacity in it. She turned her University of Washington training toward exposure rather than flattery, and I love that spine.
