My Take
Honestly, when I see a name like Kodai Sakurai my mind goes straight to a kid from Yasu in Shiga, swinging a bat in the late afternoon long after everyone else has gone home. He's a 1983-born baseball guy, a solid 181cm frame, and that tells me almost everything I need to know about the type. Baseball is a brutally repetitive craft, the same swing ten thousand times for one shot at one at-bat, and I have a soft spot for anyone who signs up for that kind of unglamorous grind. There's a stubborn, patient quality I imagine in someone from that quiet corner of Shiga. Ten years with Hanshin and a second life as a coach in independent ball tell me he respects the discipline the role demands, and I'd happily root for the guy.
