Krist Novoselic

Krist Novoselic interests me as the quiet architect of something enormous. As Nirvana's bassist and co-founder, he held the foundation while the storm raged around him, and he never seemed to crave the spotlight that swallowed his bandmate. What I respect most is what came after: he poured himself into politics and activism, treating making music and improving the world as one continuous project. Bassists rarely get the headlines, but pull them out and everything collapses. Novoselic strikes me as exactly that kind of indispensable, grounded presence, both onstage and in civic life.
