Kuryu Matsuki

I'll be honest, there's something about a kid out of Muroran, Hokkaido that makes me root for him before I've even seen him play. That iron-and-steel town, those brutal winters, it just tracks that Kuryu Matsuki plays the way he does: scrappy, physical, always sticking his nose into the ugly part of the pitch where most people don't want to go. He's barely out of his teens, born in 2003, and yet he plants his 180cm frame in midfield and ball-wins like a grizzled veteran. What I love most is the refusal to stay down. He gets knocked over, pops back up, keeps running. That captain's stubbornness he showed leading his high-school side clearly never left him. I'm genuinely curious how far that motor takes him.
