My Take
Laura Dern is one of those rare actors who makes every role feel like she was the only person who could have played it. Born into Hollywood royalty — her parents are Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd — she could have coasted on connections, but instead she built one of the most consistently interesting careers in American film. From her raw, fearless work in Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart with David Lynch, to her iconic turn as Dr. Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park, to winning the Oscar for Marriage Story in 2020, the range is genuinely staggering. She's the kind of actor directors keep coming back to because she brings something real every single time — no vanity, no coasting, just complete commitment to the character in front of her. Tall, magnetic, and impossible to look away from, she's been a first-rate talent for four decades and somehow still feels underrated.
