My Take
What I admire about Lauren Faust is her refusal to talk down to her audience. Developing My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic could have been a paint-by-numbers job, but she turned a toy-driven property into character-rich storytelling that adults respect and kids genuinely feel. Coming out of CalArts and working in the same orbit as her husband Craig McCracken, she carved out a voice that pushes back against the assumption that 'girls' shows' have to be shallow. To me she's a quiet reformer of an entire genre, and her instinct for giving cartoon characters real interior lives is rarer than people realize.
