Lene Lovich

Lene Lovich is the kind of artist I keep coming back to precisely because she refused to be tamed. "Lucky Number" made her a new wave icon, but what fascinates me is her commitment to a wholly self-made persona, the trills, the braids, the otherworldly stage presence. Detroit-born and British-bred, she occupied her own strange territory rather than chasing trends, and that integrity is exactly why her work still feels fresh decades later. I admire performers who trust their own peculiar vision over commercial safety. Lovich is a textbook case of how being genuinely odd can outlast being merely popular.
