Lucille Ricksen

Lucille Ricksen's story stops me cold every time. A child of the silent era from Chicago who was already working on screen, she died of tuberculosis at just fourteen. Fourteen. Her life feels like an unfinished sentence. What strikes me is how the films freeze her forever as a young girl, while the world she might have grown into never arrived. I admire her not for a long career but for the sheer fullness she packed into a vanishingly short life, and I want to give that quiet, fragile legacy the respect it deserves.
