My Take
Lucio is the kind of defender I will always champion. Nicknamed 'The Horse' for his galloping runs upfield, he refused to be a mere stopper, carrying the ball into attack with a boldness few centre-backs dare. At 188 cm from Planaltina, he combined aerial dominance with genuine ambition on the ball, and watching him anchor great Brazilian sides was a thrill. Being ranked among the best defenders of his generation feels earned, not inflated. More than the trophies, it is his forward-leaning, unafraid mentality that I respect, both as a footballer and, I suspect, as a man.
