Lucky Ikeda

I have a real soft spot for Lucky Ikeda, the kind of guy who's been wiggling away in the corner of your TV screen for decades while quietly being one of the sharpest choreographers in the business. That's the part I love: the goofy, rubber-limbed clown everyone smiles at is also a craftsman who can drill a routine into shape with total precision. He's a Sumida, Tokyo kid, born in '59, and the fact that he kept that bouncy energy and crisp movement well past sixty makes him feel like some kind of showbiz stamina monster. He pulls kids and grown-ups alike into a "ah, just dance with me" mood, and that warmth carries right through the screen.
