Luol Deng

Luol Deng's story moves me more than his stat line does, and the stat line is already excellent. A boy who fled war-torn South Sudan and rebuilt his life in Britain, then earned two NBA All-Star nods and a place on the All-Defensive team, is the kind of arc that reframes what resilience means. What I respect most is the texture of his recognition: a Sportsmanship Award and a Citizenship Award say more about a man than scoring titles ever could. He played hard-nosed, team-first basketball and carried himself with quiet dignity. Deng is proof that character travels with you, no matter how far you've had to run.
